Overview
If you sell on Amazon, you might encounter a "Revert Value" error after exporting your Products. This occurs when Amazon rejects a product update because a specific piece of information (such as a Brand Name or Product Category) conflicts with data currently "locked" in their catalog.
Previously, this error blocked your entire product update—including valid new titles, descriptions, and images—until the conflicting field is manually corrected.
With Automated Revert Value Resolution, Akeneo Activation can handle this process automatically, ensuring your products go live faster without manual intervention.
Note: Currently, "Revert Value" errors are observed specifically within Amazon's ecosystem. Therefore, this functionality is available exclusively for Amazon channels. However, the underlying logic is not exclusive to Amazon and is designed to support other channels should similar locking mechanisms be encountered in the future.
How it Works
Amazon sometimes "locks" certain attribute values for a product in its catalog. If your PIM attribute data differs slightly from Amazon's record, the entire product update is rejected (when only a single attribute is in error).
The revert value errors are linked to the following types of attributes:
- Product identity (i.e. UPC, SKU, Brand, Manufacturer, etc.)
- Product Categorization (i.e. Product Category, Sub-Category, Browsenode, etc.)
- Shipping/Financial (i.e. Product Dimensions, increase in Cost Price, etc.)
- Legal (i.e. Hazardous Waste designation, Battery information, etc.)

The Scenario
- Your Goal: You want to update a product's Title and Image.
- The Conflict: You send the data, but your Brand Name is spelled "Acme Inc." while Amazon's locked record lists it as "Acme".
- The Result: Amazon returns a "Revert Value" error and rejects the Title and Image updates as well.
The Solution
When this feature is enabled, Akeneo Activation detects the specific error during the export process. Instead of allowing the update to fail, the system will:
-
Identify the specific value Amazon requires
- Display them in the channels reports tab
- Package them in a dedicated report, available for each export, where revert value errors are detected
- Replace your conflicting value with Amazon’s required value (for this specific export only).
- Resend the product automatically.
This ensures your critical updates (like the new Title or Image) are accepted and published immediately.
Summary of Benefits
- Higher Acceptance Rates: Ensure more products go live without manual troubleshooting.
- Time Savings: Eliminate the need to dig through error logs for simple data conflicts.
- Full Visibility: Maintain a clear record of exactly what data was submitted to Amazon, with detailed logs accessible directly in the reports.
Configuring the Feature
This feature is optional and must be enabled within your channel settings.
- Navigate to the Activation menu.
- Select your Amazon Channel.
- Click on the Settings tab.
- Locate the Resolve Revert Value Errors section.
- Switch the toggle to On.
Once enabled, this setting applies to all future exports for this specific channel.
Reviewing Results and Reports
While Activation exports again in submitting with the values the channels expect automatically, full transparency is provided so you know exactly what data was sent to Amazon.
Accessing the Report
- Go to the Reports tab within your Amazon Channel.
- Locate your latest export job.
- Click on the Reports Details for a specific export.
Tip
You can now filter logs specifically for Revert Values within the report view. This allows you to quickly isolate products where a "Revert Value" error occurred.o Callout Body
Understanding the Revert Value Details
When viewing the filtered report, each entry for a "Revert Value" provides a detailed breakdown of the resolution:
- Product: The specific product (e.g., "Slim Organics Sandals...") that was affected.
- Message: An explanation of the detected revert value, indicating how many subfields were reverted and resubmitted (e.g., "Revert Value detected in 'item_package_dimensions' Reverted -> 3 subfields and resubmitted.").
- Subfield: The specific attribute or sub-attribute that caused the conflict (e.g., Length, Width, Height).
- Original Value (PIM): The data you originally attempted to send from Akeneo PIM (e.g., "4.88 inches").
- Reverted by Amazon: The value that Amazon expected and that Akeneo Activation used to re-push the product (e.g., "5.0 millimeters").
- Unit changed?: A visual indicator checking if the unit of measurement was also changed to match Amazon's expectation.
Best Practices
Use this detailed report to improve your catalog health. You can use this data to contact Amazon Seller Support and request they update their locked values to match your correct product information permanently.
No PIM data update
We want you to stay in control of the data that is present in your PIM. Despite re-submitting the revert value to the channel to clear the rest of the attributes, no update will be made to your PIM data with the values expected by the channel.
