Customize locale labels and logos

Summary

Custom Locale labels and logos

By default, Akeneo displays standard Locale names derived from the ISO standard, such as English (United States) or French (France). This feature lets you replace those names with custom labels adapted to your business context, and upload a custom logo that replaces the default flag icon wherever Locales are displayed in the interface.

Set custom labels for a Locale

A custom label is a translated name for a Locale that replaces the standard ISO-based label across your team's interface. For example, you can rename en_US to English US in English and Anglais américain in French.

You can set custom labels in two ways: directly from the Settings UI, or in bulk via a CSV or XLSX import file.

Set labels from the UI

  1. Go to Settings > Locales.
  2. Select the Locale you want to customize.
  3. In the locale edit form, fill in the label fields for each of your interface languages.
  4. Save your changes.

Set labels in bulk via import

Use this method when you need to set or update labels for multiple Locales at once.

Your file must include the following columns:

  • code: the Locale code (for example, en_US or fr_FR).
  • custom_label-{locale_code}: the label displayed when a user's interface is set to that language. Add one column per language you want to support.

Example:

code custom_label-en_US custom_label-fr_FR
en_US English US Anglais américain
fr_FR French (France) Français (France)

To remove an existing custom label, leave the corresponding cell empty. This clears the stored translation for that language without affecting labels in other languages.

  1. Go to Imports.
  2. Open the CSV locale import or XLSX locale import job profile.
  3. Upload your file and click Upload and import now.

Once the import completes, the custom labels are applied across the interface immediately.

Upload a custom logo for a Locale

A custom logo replaces the default country flag displayed next to a Locale code throughout the PIM interface. This is particularly useful for custom or non-standard Locales that do not correspond to a country flag, or when you want to use a branded visual for a specific market.

  1. Go to Settings > Locales.
  2. Select the Locale you want to customize.
  3. Upload your image in the custom logo field.
  4. Save your changes.

The logo is displayed at 24x24 pixels in most parts of the interface. Use a square image (PNG or SVG) for the best result. If no custom logo is configured, the standard country flag is shown as a fallback.

How labels are resolved

Custom labels are shown based on the viewing user's interface language. A user with an English interface sees the label defined in the custom_label-en_US column. If no custom label exists for their language, the standard ISO label is shown as a fallback.

Compatibility

Custom Locale labels and logos apply within the Akeneo PIM & DAM interfaces only. The following Akeneo products are not compatible with this feature and display standard ISO-based Locale names regardless of any customization configured in the PIM:

  • Digital Showroom
  • Activation
  • Shared Catalogs
  • Supplier Data Manager (SDM)
  • Onboarder
